Riverside Medical Group will offer free and private prostate cancer and breast cancer screenings on September 14th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Interested persons are encouraged to bring a friend or spouse of the opposite sex to have their appropriate screening done at the same time.
The prostate cancer screening will be performed by urologist Dr. Jack Lambert and oncologist Dr. Nicholas Drake and will include a questionnaire, a physical examination and a PSA blood test.
The breast cancer screening will be performed by Nurse Practitioner Megan Campbell and will include a clinical breast exam and, if appropriate, assistance with scheduling a mammogram. Information on low- and no-cost mammograms for eligible women will also be available.
Eligibility for the prostate cancer screening includes men at average risk from ages 50 to 70 even if they have no symptoms and are in good health; men at high risk who are ages 45 to 70 with one first degree relative (father, brother, son) who had prostate cancer before the age of 65; men at higher risk who are ages 40 to 70 with two or more first degree relatives who have had prostate cancer; and African-American men ages 45-70.
Men who have or had prostate cancer and men who have prostate problems and are seeing a doctor for prostate issues are not eligible for this screening.
Eligibility for the breast cancer screening includes women ages 40 and older who have not had a screening in the past 12 months or women under 40 who have a concerning symptom.
The screening will be held at the Riverside Medical Group office building at 20486 Market Street, Onancock, on the hospital campus.
The screenings are free but require an appointment. Call 800-520-7006 to schedule an appointment.
